Yellow Jackets, Wasps, Bald Faced Hornets

Yellow jackets, wasps, and hornets may look similar but they have very different levels of aggressiveness.

Yellow jackets are normally slow to sting but they are very territorial and become extremely aggressive and will sting if you get close to their nest.  They can sting multiple times so be careful not to provoke them. They build their nests on trees and buildings, as well as in the ground.  They are attracted to sweets and proteins, which is a nuisance when you are eating outdoors.  It is important to clean up and keep food covered when having a picnic.

Wasps hang their comb nests from twigs and branches of trees and shrubs, porch ceilings, the tops of windows, doorframes, etc.   While they are not aggressive they will sting if their nest is disturbed.  Their stings are very painful.

Bald faced hornets are extremely aggressive and they will attack anything that invades their space.  They have a smooth stinger and they can sting over and over and over.   They build their nests 3 ft and higher above ground and are very alert of any movement around the nest.

Out in the wild these insects should be left alone but when they build their nests on or too close to your home they need to be taken care of.  Call us, the professionals, to take care of any yellow jacket, wasps, or bald faced hornet problems you may be facing.  We can hang traps, remove nests when necessary and provide preventative maintenance.
